The reviews are not 'censored' with regards to information pertaining to professor or course matters.

We do edit responses that include vulgar or threatening language. Sometimes we can edit the response by simply placing asterisks (***) over selected letters of an offensive word and other times we will omit the offensive remark entirely. This really depends on the person posting the response and the amount of effort they feel like going through (it’s a lot easier to just delete the remark). Just play it safe – keep the vulgarity out of the reviews, please!

If it is near registration, we try to stay on top of the posting process, posting reviews a couple of times a week. At other off-peak times, we get a little lax and post them more infrequently. Well, first of all, for those of you non-geeks, getting called a computer geek is usually a compliment! MTSU Review is written in PHP and uses a MySQL database. The recent upgrade includes a pretty heavy dose of JavaScript as well. The site runs off of a Linux server (shared hosting from GoDaddy). As far as the actual code, it is all custom written and it has taken a few different forms over the years. The original MTSU Review site was completely HTML driven – meaning every response had an individual html page (edited with FrontPage). I simply did not know how to code PHP or create MySQL statements back then. When I started using PHP and MySQL (this was my first attempt at that, by the way), the site went from approximately 2500 static files down to about 20 (and from about 180 MB+ down to about 15 MB – FrontPage isn’t called bloatware for nothing!).
